Description:

Patterned after a French design, the Model 1832 was intended to serve as a utility tool as much as a defensive weapon with a heavy weight blade suitable for chopping brush to build barricades or clear a path for a cannon. Sword is 25 1/4 inches long overall with a 19 1/8 inch straight triple fuller blade, bearing the three-line Ames address on one side and "U.S./J.H/1859" on the reverse. Single piece cast brass hilt with "J.H" and "W.A.T." on the guard and scaled grip and American Eagles on the pommel. With a brass fitted black leather scabbard, numbered "26" on the throat and tip and a fine multi-piece white butt belt, fitted with a two-piece round brass "US" buckle and stamped "MADE BY/E. & H. A. DINGEE,/NEW YORK" on the interior.

Rating Definition:

Good. The blade shows some light spotting overall with mild polishing marks along the edges and a fine bright gray color overall. A good aged brass patina is present on the hilt and scabbard hardware with the leather showing a number of surface cracks. The belt is very good, with some light stains.
