Colt Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver with Accoutrements

This is a very fine example of a Colt Model 1877 Double Action revolver with an attractive pair of grips and a pocket tin that holds three paper playing cards "3 ACEs" along with a small wire card holder. This tin and playing cards were obviously intended for "trick" shooting, as you would push the wire holder into something soft like the ground or fence rail, and then place the playing cards on top. The cover or lid of the brass tin is stamped "COMPLIMENTS/COL. SAM L COLT/PAT. F.A. MFG. Co./ LONDON". The holder is made from simple twisted spring steel and it includes three playing cards, all three are the "Ace of Spades". This fine revolver has the four inch barrel with an ejector on the side with the "bullseye" ejector rod head. The top of the barrel has the standard short two line Hartford barrel address with "COLT. D.A. 38" on the left side and the three-line, three-patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, back strap with the stamped "97". The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "8". Fitted with blade front and frame notch rear sights. It has a blued finish on the metal parts with a color casehardened frame.

ConditionVery fine with 70% of the original blue finish with wear and thinning on the grip straps and trigger guard. The frame retains 20% of the case colors. The grips are in very good condition with a nice aged yellow appearance with cracks and chips on the lower edges of the grips with a 1 1/2 inch crack on the lower left grip. The small brass tin is in very fine condition and so is the small spring wire holder. The playing cards are in good condition with the Ace of Spades clear on the front of each cards. The cardboard material is wrinkled.
