Description:

This is a very fine example of a WWI U.S. Winchester Model 1917 bolt action rifle. These 1917 rifles were the primary U.S. Army and USMC service rifle used throughout WWI and many saw service during the early days of WWII, making original unaltered examples very scarce. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL OF 1917/WINCHESTER/27103". The muzzle end of the barrel is correctly stamped with the Winchester markings of "W/flaming bomb/8-17". The left receiver rail is stamped with the ordnance bomb and a circled star. All components have a dark, blue finish. The bolt handle is stamped "W" and "NS" on the underside, indicating a nickel steel Winchester produced bolt. Mounted with a smooth matching two piece walnut pistol grip stock and handguard with a stacking swivel and bayonet lug on the front band, "eagle head/270" stamped on the underside of the wrist, "eagle head/542" stamped on the bottom of the forearm.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the original blue finish. Showing areas of edge wear, light surface scratches, brown patina and some minor dings. The wood is fine overall, with mostly light handling marks and some minor dings. The left side below the receiver does however have some rough patches, that appear to have been lightly sanded and reoiled. Mechanically excellent.
