Rare Early Production Winchester Model 1892 Musket Serial Number 331 with Bayonet

It is estimated that less than 1% of the total Model 1892 production was in the musket configuration due to Winchester's failure to secure government contracts for the variation. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight, and the breech end is marked "44 W.C.F." The upper tang has the model and patent information, and the extremely early serial number "331" appears on the bottom of the receiver. The top of the receiver has a spiral/floral Siamese marking suggesting a military contract an unknown quantity of this model. It has a pinned blade front sight with a base that doubles as the bayonet stud, a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 800 yards, and is mounted with a smooth full length musket forearm secured by two barrel bands (a third band located just ahead of it) and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate with an empty cleaning rod compartment. Sling swivels are mounted to the middle barrel band and the bottom of the buttstock. It is complete with an original Winchester triangular socket bayonet correctly left in the white and unmarked.

ConditionThe musket displays an uneven brown patina with minor scrapes and marks overall. The wood is good with some hairline cracks, small chips, and numerous scattered dings. The screw for one of the barrel bands is absent. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is fine with some patches of dark patina/oxidation.
