Very Rare Nazi Proofed Menz Model IV "Serial Number 7" Prototype Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a very rare example of a late MENZ prototype Model IV double action pistol in 7,65mm. The Menz company was originally formed just prior to WWI. They made several version of small caliber pocket pistols called the LILIPUT with a later version called the MENTA. The company eventually sold to the AG. Lignose company in 1937 who continued to produced this model. Just prior to WWII August Menz started another company under his own name that produced a slightly larger and more modern double action pistol that was basically an improved Model III. These late Model IV pistols were produced in very limited/prototype form that had a larger/elongated trigger guard with a double action mechanism in 7,65mm. They were a very nice pistol similar in shape to the Walther PP pistols. Marked on the left side of the slide "Mod MENZ Kal 7,65" with the right side marked "A. Braungard". The top of the slide has standard fixed sights with a cartridge/loaded indicator on top of the slide in front of the ejection port. The left side of the frame is stamped with serial number "7" and the right rear side of the frame and slide are both stamped with the "Eagle/N" Nazi commercial proof indicating that this pistol was produced sometime during the beginning of 1940. It has the noted double action mechanism with a very unique safety that functions somewhat like a decocking mechanism. It is fitted with a set of red plastic checkered grips that have the intertwined initials "AM" surrounded by a wreath at the top. The "AM" refers to August Menz. It is complete with one original unmarked magazine.

ConditionFine with 40% plus of the original blue finish remaining showing even honest wear and thinning overall, with a slightly more patina finish on the front grip strap. The grips are very fine plus with nice checkering and markings with a couple minor handling marks on the right side. Mechanically functions, but needs minor work. A very nice example of a rare late production prototype MENZ Model IV pistol.
