Description:

The Remington Rider Pocket Percussion Revolver was designed by Joseph Rider who moved to Ilion, NY, from Ohio. The Remington-Rider was one of the first double action revolvers manufactured in significant quantities (estimated 2,000) in the U.S. and were produced from around 1860 until 1873. This example has the early dovetailed cone front and standard frame groove rear sights. The top barrel flat has the two line Remington address/Rider's patent marking, and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, grip strap, and underside of both grip panels. It has primarily a blue finish with German silver trigger guard and checkered grips. Included with the revolver is a correct style pasteboard box containing a seater, bullet mold, and appropriate American Eagle powder flask. At this early point in Remington's history, they did not use factory made or marked boxes and instead purchased the boxes from multiple outside contractors. It is very rare to find an early Remington revolver complete with an original box and correct accessories.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 30% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel and traces on the frame with otherwise a varied brown patina. There are some light marks and scratches mixed throughout and some minor spotting. The grips are very fine with crisp checkering and only a few slight scratches and dings. All of the markings are clear, and it is mechanically excellent. The scarce original box is in very good condition with some small tears and some separation along with typical wear from many years of storage. The flask and seater are both very fine with a nice dark tone on the body of the flask and an attractive aged patina on the bright brass throat and the seater. The bullet mold is very good. Overall, this is a fine original Remington-Rider Pocket revolver with rare box!
