Description:

This Beals revolver was manufactured from 1857 or 1858 and is marked "F. BEALS' PATENT/JUNE 24.'56 & MAY 26. '57" on the barrel and REMINGTON'S/ILION NY" on the top of the frame. It has the desirable and rare iron trigger guard, Issue 5 markings and cylinder notches, and is equipped with a large German silver cone front sight and a deep groove in the arched portion at the rear of the frame as rear sight. The cylinder on the First Model is operated by a curved bar on the exterior of the left side of the frame. The serial number matches on the barrel, trigger guard, grip strap, and grip. It comes with an unmarked but correct style antique pasteboard box; appropriate small, American Eagle themed, brass powder flask; and a cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains traces of the original blue finish and case colors alongside an established mottled brown patina with various minor scratches, nicks, and marks. The markings remain clear. The grip is good with some light scratches and a hairline crack in the butt. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with some minor separation at the corners of the lid, the common staining of the interior, and overall minor shelf wear. The lightly dented flask is good and has half of the lacquer with the balance a dark aged patina. Overall, a desirable example of one of few First Model Beals Pocket revolvers equipped with an iron trigger guard complete with box and accessories!
