Description:

Second Model Pocket revolver manufactured by James Warner of Springfield, Massachusetts, c. 1860. Total production of the Second Model revolver is estimated at a few hundred pieces. The revolver has a round, .28 caliber barrel and six-shot cylinder with safety notches. The top strap is roll-stamped: "JAMES WARNER. SPRINGFIELD. MASS. U.S.A." in one line. "JAMES WARNER PATENT/1857" is stamped on the left side of the cylinder hand. The serial number, "922" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, the left side of the frame beneath the grip and on the inside of both grips. All of the visible serial numbers match. The revolver has a high polish blue finish on the barrel, loading lever, frame and cylinder. The hammer and trigger are color case-hardened. The two-piece rose wood grips have a high polish piano finish. The revolver is complete with a mahogany case with five compartments lined with dark green velvet. The case contains: (1) brass, double cavity, round ball, bullet mold, (2) gold-plated, copper tin of 100 "Hicks Caps", (3) pocket pistol powder flask with fixed charger and brown lacquer body embossed on both sides with 'bush' pattern, and (4) assortment of .28 caliber lead round ball bullets.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 85% plus of the bright original high blue and case-hardened finish. The blue finish on the top strap is thin and the back strap, butt and grip strap show light handling wear. The serial numbers and patent markings are sharp. The two-piece rosewood grips are in excellent condition and show minimal wear. The action functions perfectly. The case exterior is in excellent condition and the green velvet lining is in fine condition. Interior wear is limited to compression marks from the revolver cylinder and some faint oil stains. The bullet mold, cap tin and power flask are all in excellent condition. This is an excellent example of a scarce cased, James Warner, Second Model Pocket revolver.
