This Winchester Model 1886 Sporting rifle was manufactured in 1895. The rifle features the very desirable color casehardened receiver with blued barrel, magazine, forearm cap, bolt and shotgun buttplate. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut. The rifle has a full length magazine and round barrel with a sporting style front sight with nickel silver blade and buckhorn sporting style rear sight with adjustable center notch and serrated edges. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "45-90" W.C.F." is stamped on top of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. The upper tang is roll-stamped: "-MODEL 1886-". The lower tang has the 1884 and 1885 patent markings roll-stamped behind the trigger, and the serial number "104767" is stamped in script numerals between the tang screws. The initials "HN" are carved in the stock immediately behind the lower tang.

Very fine. The rifle is all original and retains nearly 90% of the original blue finish. Nearly all of the blue finish is present on the barrel, magazine tube and forearm cap. The finish shows very little handling wear but does have some scattered and very minor age spotting. The barrel legend and caliber markings are crisp. Most of the blue finish is present on the bolt while the loading gate shows some wear and retains about 50% of the fire blue finish. The receiver retains at least 90% of the color casehardened finish with strong case colors. Wear is limited to some very minor finish loss on the upper edges of the receiver and some light spots of age discoloration. The hammer and lever retain 70% plus of the casehardened finish. The only significant finish wear is on the buttplate which has a brown patina with some surface rust. The stock and forearm are in very good overall condition and retain about 80% of the original finish with scattered, minor, handling and storage marks. This is a very fine example of a Model 1886 Winchester lever action rifle with desirable casehardened receiver.
