This is 1872 marked rifle is one of only 10,001 Rolling Block Rifles manufactured between 1871 and 1872 by Springfield Armory under a royalty agreement with Remington Arms Company. In addition to the standard markings, it has a large "7" stamped on the right side of the forearm at the breech It is finished primarily bright with a casehardened frame and trigger guard and a blued rear sight. It has the standard Model 1871 markings, bayonet stud/blade front sight, smooth stock and forearm, and includes a "U.S." marked socket bayonet and a leather sling.

Good. The rifle has a mostly bright appearance overall with some areas light gray and brown patina. The reoiled wood is very good with only a few small scrapes, chips, and dings. The stock cartouche and other markings are crisp. The action functions fine. The leather sling is good with some mild crackling and rub wear. The bayonet is fine with some spots of mild pitting and oxidation.
