This U.S. Contract Colt Single Action Cavalry Model revolver was manufactured in 1890 as part of the last two contracts for U.S. Colt Cavalry revolvers. The revolver has the standard military blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, hammer and loading gate are color casehardened, and the one-piece walnut grip is oil finished. The revolver has the cavalry style hammer with elongated, bordered knurling on the spur and the late style, oval ejector rod head adopted about serial number 113,000. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the Fourth Style "Elongated Block Letter" address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Three-Date/Three-Line" patent markings followed by the "U.S." property mark. The assembly number "699" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The sub-inspector mark "R.A.C." is stamped: (1) of the underside of the barrel, (2) on the bottom of the frame above the serial number, (3) on the side of the cylinder, and (4) on the left grip heel. The left side of the hammer is stamped with a faint "HN" (Henry Nettleton) sub-inspection mark which may indicate that Colt was using previously inspected spare parts to complete revolvers near the end of the government contracts. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel and on the side of the cylinder. The full serial number "131892" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "1892" is stamped on the barrel beneath the ejector housing and on the side of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. A Colt "K" sub-inspection mark is stamped on the end of the ejector housing, the trigger guard, and back strap. The left side of the grip is stamped with the date "1890" above the Ordnance final inspection mark which consists of the script initials "SEB" (Captain Stanhope E. Blunt) enclosed in a rectangle with rounded ends. The lower right side of the grip is stamped with the Ordnance sub-inspection mark which consist of the script initials "RAC" enclosed in a rectangle.

Excellent. Excluding the period replaced "HN" sub-inspected hammer, the revolver is all original and retains at least 95% of the bright original blue and color casehardened finish. The barrel retains nearly all of the military blue finish with some slight edge wear at the muzzle. "Feathered" polishing marks are visible on both sides of the front sight and above the ejector housing stud. The front and lower side of the ejector housing shows some light finish wear. The cylinder shows slightly more finish wear with minor edge wear on high points, turn marks between the stops and some finish loss above the "RAC" sub-inspection mark. The trigger guard and back strap retain nearly all of the blue finish and show very little handling wear. The frame and loading gate retain about 95% of the color casehardened finish with strong case colors. The case colors on the hammer match the case colors on the frame and loading gate perfectly. The frame screws and trigger retain nearly all of the fire blue finish. The grip is in excellent condition. Handling wear is limited to a few very minor dents and the date, final inspection and sub-inspection marks are extremely sharp. The action is crisp, but the hammer will not hold at half-cock. This is an exceptional example of an 1890 production, R.A.C. sub-inspected U.S. Colt Single Action Cavalry Model revolver.
