This quality made Thomas Bland Howdah pistol was manufactured in the late 19th century. Thomas Bland & Sons traces its roots back to 1840 and is known for high quality arms. This side by side pistol is marked "T BLAND & SONS" on the top of the barrel rib and on each of the back action lock plates. The serial number is on the lower tang and water table which also has small cross scepter proofmarks, "T. B & S", and "TRADE/B [in a diamond]/MARK". Aside from the blued barrels, the metal surfaces are casehardened. It has added/modified beaded blade and notch sights and is fitted with a proper smaller checkered walnut forearm with horn insert and a checkered round knob pistol grip stock with hump on the upper wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as period refinished. The barrel retains 98% of the blue finish and 80% vivid case colors with some fading on the lock plates, a few small patches of oxidation, and some light handling marks overall. The wood is also fine with sharp checkering and some slight dings and light scratches. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp markings.
