Description:

Pistols of this style were used by Cossacks during the later portion of the long Caucasian War (1817-1864) and other mid-19th century conflicts. For centuries, Cossack cavalrymen served vital roles including policing in the Russian Empire and helped Russia expand its reach. They were utilized in conflicts from the 18th century and into the 20th century. They were from primarily democratic and mostly autonomous militaristic communities. The pistol has Liege proof marks on the rifled barrel and is otherwise unmarked as is common with these pistols. The barrel has no sights and is fitted to the stock by three barrel bands. The pistol has a back action percussion lock and the distinctive Cossack style ball trigger and knob butt stock. The butt has a stud for a lanyard loop.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol displays a gray patina with some light spotting over most of the metal surfaces with some minor marks and patches of light brown patina. The stock is very good with mostly smooth surfaces, a small sliver absent between the rear barrel bands on the right, a pinned repair above the lock, and a small crack below the bolster. The lock needs some work, and the hammer screw and lanyard ring are absent.
