Description:

Alfonso XIII was King of Spain from 1902 until he abdicated in 1941. He was an avid sportsman and had a substantial gun collection much like President Theodore Roosevelt. His Mannlicher rifle features a blade front and two leaf (one standing and one folding) rear express sight on the polished blue barrel. The action and bolt are polished blue. Receiver has standard Steyr markings. Rifle features classic butterknife bolt, tang mounted thumb safety, wing safety, and double set triggers. Mannlicher full stock has sling swivels and factory spring loaded cheekpiece. Stock bears remains of a paper label marked “PATRIMONIO NACIONAL”, indicating that this Mannlicher formed part of Spain’s national patrimony and was regarded as essentially a national treasure. Serrated steel buttplate with trapdoor (vacant). Provenance: The personal collection of King Alfonso XIII. A guaranteed Royal firearm that would enhance any collection of Mannlichers or bolt action rifles.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the original blue finish. A few areas of light scratches, and scuffs at the forend tip and handling marks consistent with careful field use by the King. Wood is fine with scattered scratches and dents. The right side of stock has the fragmentary Royal Collection label and minor loss of varnish as a result. Mechanically excellent.
