Manufactured in 1936. According to factory records (printed copy of letter included) it was shipped as a single item to John Oberlies of Dayton, Ohio, by way of the Shapleigh Hardware Company of St. Louis on 31 December, 1936, with a six inch barrel, blue finish, 38 caliber chambering and "Not Listed" grips. The son of a cabinet maker, Oberlies went West for a few years before returning to the family trade. While in his off-hours, he dabbled in gunsmithing. This dabbling eventually became a full-time career. Elevation adjustable front sight and windage adjustable rear sight, with the two-line address and patent dates on top of the barrel, caliber markings on the left side, checkered hammer, trigger and back strap. Fitted with a pair of checkered Colt medallion grips. With a Colt maroon faux-leather box, gold stenciled "COLT/Shooting Master" on the lid and pencil marked "341808/38/c 6"/SB" on the interior.
