Description:

Developed before the introduction of the Bolo-pattern broomhandle, the six-shot Broomhandle uses a significantly smaller frame than the standard commercial/military model resulting in an overall decrease in weight and a prominent trigger guard. Notes from the 1902 U.S. Pistol Trials state that the Mauser factory representatives brought a pistol similar to this for examination, which was billed as an "officer's model" in contrast to the "enlisted model", which was the full-sized 10-shot Broomhandle of World War I fame. Estimates place the end of 6-shot Broomhandle production and serial number 43700, making this a very late example; serial #43620 is pictured in Erickson & Pate's "The Broomhandle Pistol:1896-1936", where it is described as one of the last known . Fixed sights, with the three-line address on the top barrel flat, serial number on the upper left, and "crown/crown/U" and "GERMANY" on the left. A small "crown/BNP" proof is present on the underside of the barrel indicating that this pistol both arrived in America at one point and passed through the proof house at Birmingham, possibly in that order. The safety is niter blue. It has a straw colored trigger and a set of 27-groove grips numbered to match the pistol.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as refurbished (for commercial sales in the 1920's) with 90% of the blue finish showing some bright edge wear and scattered handling marks. The hammer is period renumbered to match the pistol, and the "GERMANY" import mark is double-struck. Bright niter blue is present on the safety and 60% of the straw color is on the trigger. Grips are very fine with a few small dings. Mechanically excellent.
