Description:

This is an example of a pre-WWII, Walther custom engraved "RZM" marked PPK pistol, that is shown on page 57 in the excellent book; "Walther Volume II, Engraved, Presentation and Standard Walther Pistols" by Rankin. This has to have been a very special order, personal pistol as it has the early encircled "RZM" markings on the slide which was reserved for early NSDAP party members, however there is no presentation inscription. The pistol has been highly engraved in a non-traditional deep relief floral engraving pattern with very fine diminutive punch-dot back ground that covers 98% of he pistols metal surfaces. All of the factory markings have a fine line border that is complimented with geometric designs and additional borders along the edges of the major parts. In addition it has also been fitted with two-piece set of checkered walnut grips and walnut magazine base. The serial number (834819) is stamped on the right side of the frame with the last three digits, "819" correctly scratched on the inside of the slide. The left side of the slide has the original Walther banner, the two line Walther slide legend followed by "Mod. PPK," and the encircled "RZM" markings, all framed in a nice circular border. The right side of the slide, frame and barrel have the early commercial Crown N proof marks used until approximately 1940. The slide is fitted with the standard sights and 90 degree safety. It is complete with a Walther marked magazine that has been fitted with a matching (same style as the grips) custom walnut base plate. It is complete with a modern, custom presentation type display case with a light red felt interior. The case holds the pistol, a bullet board that holds eight rounds and a small black handled screwdriver.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots overall with thinning on the front grip strap mixed with some spotting and light corrosion on the left and right sides of the upper frame/chamber area. The grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with a couple of minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The engraving is exceptional and beautifully done. The custom display case is a suitable display case for this attractive pre-war Walther engraved RZM pistol.
