Description:

This is a very fine condition Model 1903 Springfield Armory NRA sales rifle as manufactured in 1915. These N.R.A. marked sales rifles were issued/sold from Springfield Armory, prior to WWI to qualified NRA members through by the DCM. Most were sold as early target rifles and with the advent of WWI all sales were stopped in late 1916. This very nice example has the standard receiver markings and serial number, with the exposed section of the barrel marked "SA/flaming bomb/12- 1". It has been personalized by a previous owner by having his name and state engraved on the left sides of the rear sight base, as follows: "JAMES G. PARKER/CONCORD MASS./U. S. A.". The rear sight is the standard model with the 2,850 yard volley notch, with the concave/dished windage and elevation knobs. The bolt is marked with the steel lot code "C 6" on the underside of the safety lug. The front tang of the trigger guard is stamped with "N.R.A./flaming bomb" to denote it was sold through the DCM. It has a standard straight grip, walnut stock with grasping grooves, with one reinforcing bolt, a "J.S.A." cartouche on the left wrist, a circled "P" proofmark on the underside of the wrist and a checkered steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear with thinning/blue loss on top of the receiver, the floor plate and front barrel band with light wear on the bolt body from cycling the action. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition overall with a nice medium brown color overall with light pressure dents/handling marks and minor scratches on the sides of the buttstock. The proofs and cartouches are clear and distinct.
