Description:

This first year Model 1886 has the standard sporting rifle features and the early style markings. 159,994 Model 1886s were manufactured in several variations between 1886 and 1935. The .45-90 Winchester cartridge is one of the more desirable chamberings. Theodore Roosevelt was known to be a fan of this model and presented the Metcalf brother's identical rifles designed to match the one he used in the famed black bear hunt that sparked the "Teddy Bear" story.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Traces of the mostly faded original blue finish and case colors remain. The balance has primarily a brown patina along with patches of mild oxidation and pitting and various small marks. The wood is very good with some small chips, dings, and light scratches. The action is excellent, and the markings are clear. Only just over three thousand Model 1886s were produced during the first year of production.
