Description:

This rifle was manufactured in 1928 and is chambered for the very desirable .405 Winchester cartridge. Theodore Roosevelt had a high regard for the .405 Model 1895 and used them during his African safari and numerous other hunting trips. He wrote, "The Winchester stocked and sighted to suit myself is by all odds the best weapon I ever had, and now use it almost exclusively." The .405 W.C.F. was the strongest lever action cartridge of its day and was suitable for large and dangerous game. This example has a Lyman beaded blade front sight and an adjustable sporting rear sight. The caliber and nickel steel markings are on the barrel along with the "WP" proof which is at the breech and on the receiver. The underside of the barrel has some faint markings including another .405 caliber designation. The receiver is also marked with the two line address and patent markings on the left side and the model designation on the upper tang. The serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with a smooth straight grip stock with ebony insert in the Schnabel tip forearm and a steel rifle buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus of the blue finish with only minor marks and scattered scratches. The wood is also excellent with a few pressure marks and minor scratches likely from storage. The markings are crisp with the exception noted above. The action is excellent.
