Description:

According to the included factory letter this revolver was part of a 50 gun shipment of .45 caliber, blue finished revolvers shipped to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham in New York City on May 25, 1878. It was manufactured in 1877 and has the one-line address on the barrel, three-line patent information on the left side of the frame, blade and frame groove sights, walnut grip, and matching serial numbers. The loading gate has the assembly number "6327", and "45 CAL" is on the left side rear trigger guard shoulder. There are small inspection "C/P" and "J.T.C." (John T. Cleveland) markings on the bottom of the barrel and "L.D." ( Lewis Draper) above the serial number on the frame. A "C" has been stamped over the middle of the "L.D." The "C" stamps indicate the revolver was condemned by the Ordnance Department inspector. Some of the early SAA revolvers were rejected for minor variances in the bores, cylinder issues, finish problems, or other minor imperfections. They were then held until the contract was completed and Colt was allowed to salvage parts to build revolvers that were sold on the civilian market.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refinished. The revolver retains 70% of the thin blue finish and has a gray patina and some light spotting on the balance. There is some light pitting on the frame. The grip is fine with much of the varnish some lower edge wear, bruising, and minor scratches. The action remains excellent, and most of the markings are clear.
