Description:

Manufactured in the mid-1870s to the 1880s by Hopkins & Allen, this Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army single action revolver features the early dished cylinder and open frame along with the bird's head grip frame. The revolver is profusely engraved with the distinctive Merwin Hulbert & Co. style. The left side of the frame under the cylinder is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" followed "1873", and the right side of the frame is marked "MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY". The left side of the barrel has the two-line Hopkins & Allen address and patent marking inside. The revolver displays a variety of floral and geometric patterns throughout and has a landscape scene with a sailboat on the left side plate. "372" is marked on the right side of the bird's head butt, and "333" is marked on the barrel lug, cylinder pin, rear of the cylinder, left side of the grip strap, and edge of the left grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 50% of the original unpolished nickel plating with gray and brown patina, bright oxidation, and some slight pitting on the balance. The grips are very good and have an attractive aged appearance with mostly crisp checkering and some minor marks and blemishes. The action is fine, and the engraving and markings are mostly crisp.
