Exceptional Consecutive Pair of Early Second Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolvers with Factory Letter and Black Boxes

A) Colt Single Action Army Revolver

According to the included factory letters, this outstanding consecutive pair of Colt revolvers were shipped to Treece Rod & Gun Shop in Grand Junction, Colorado, in their current configuration (grips not listed) on July 2, 1956. Given the shipping date, it is clear that these revolvers were manufactured during the first half of the first year of Second Generation production. Treece Rod & Gun Shop was purchased by the late Gene Taylor of the Baltimore Orioles just two years later. The barrels are both marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .38 SPECIAL" on the left and "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." on top. The left sides of the frames have the two line, three date patent information and the Rampant Colt emblem. They are fitted with checkered Rampant Colt emblem grips and have matching serial numbers. The consecutive assembly numbers are marked on the loading gates and right rear of the frames. They have the standard blade and frame groove sights, blue and casehardened finish, and "high" hammers with polished sides (standard from 1956 to mid-1959 and then from 1973 on). According to the production data discussed in The Post-War Colt Single Action Revolver, 1955-1975, 2,881 Second Generation SAAs (73 as consecutive sets) were produced in this configuration. Each revolver includes a matching Colt black box that is hand numbered to the gun and includes original factory documents including warranty cards, manuals, and the Handling the Handgun pamphlet.

ConditionNear new in box. The revolver has only light handling and storage marks and some very slight cylinder drag lines. The box is excellent with only minor storage wear. This pair of consecutive Colt Single Action Army revolvers are among the highest condition Second Generation Colts we have offered and are made all the more rare by their included high condition boxes and consecutive serial numbers.
