Fantastic Documented Rare Newton Model 1916 Bolt Action Takedown Rifle

Manufactured in 1917 when the original purchase price was around $50.00. To dismount from the stock, the floor plate release button is pressed which swings the hinged floor plate down. Using the floor plate like a wrench, three turns loosens the front receiver screw nut. Pressure on the snap button in the forearm releases the barrel. Equipped with a beaded blade front sight and two leaf rear sight. Polished bolt numbered to the gun and double set trigger. Mounted on a nicely figured pistol grip stock featuring checkering on the forearm and grip area, grip cap and smooth buttplate. From 1914 to 1918, Newton Arms Company, under the stewardship of ballistician Charles Newton, manufactured a total of 2,400 high quality rifles. Today these rifle are considered to be some of the best quality sporting rifles manufactured in America. This rifle is featured and profusely illustrated on page 65, 66 and 67 in the book "The Mauser Archive" by Jon Speed.

ConditionExcellent plus. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish showing some loss at the muzzle and some high edge wear on the buttplate. The stock is also excellent with a few very scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This is a superb example of American ingenuity and craftsmanship.
