Unique Serial Number "1234B" U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1922 M1/M2 Bolt Action Target Rifle

This Springfield Model 1922 MI .22 rifle has been arsenal overhauled and modified to M2 specifications. The receiver is marked: "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL OF 1922 MII CAL..22/1234B". The additional "I" after "M1" and the "B" suffix on the serial number indicate that the rifle was modified to M2 configuration during the late 1930s. The barrel has the standard Springfield markings and is dated "8-25". The arsenal polished bolt has an M2 cocking piece and is marked "NS/M2" on the top of the handle and "M2" on the body. The rifle has an M2 stock with grasping grooves and heavy checkered buttplate with no trap. The rifle is fitted with a "M2" marked magazine, Lyman 48 micrometer rear sight and the standard M2 blade front sight. The barrel, receiver, trigger guard and buttplate have a gray-green parkerized finish. The M2 modifications produced a faster lock time and more reliable ignition; most U.S. Army Model 1922 and Model 1922 M1 rifles were altered to M2 specifications.

ConditionVery fine as arsenal refinished and updated to M2 specifications. 95% of the gray/green parkerized finish remains. The front sight band shows edge wear and some light gray patina. With scattered small handling marks and a few light dings. The wood is also very fine with some light indentations, and general handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
