Included with the rifle is the 1980 Gun Digest article "Heym Builds Me A Ruger" by John T. Amber which discusses this custom build and master engraved rifle from Fr. Wilhelm Heym, gunmakers of Munnerstadt, West Germany; the photographs and details all match, but no serial number is listed. Built on a Ruger No. 1 action with added false side plates to maximize the engraving area as noted in the article. This Eric Boessler master engraved and gold inlaid custom rifle features a tapered octagonal barrel with a ramped blade front and fixed rear notch sights. The left flat is marked with standard German commercial proofs and "FR. WILH. HEYM" just forward of the breech. The quarter rib is mounted with engraved and gold inlaid scope rings with a Zeiss DIAVARI-ZA1.5-6x42 scope. The set trigger action has been beautifully game scene engraved with deer on the left face and pronghorn antelope on the right. The animal scenes include highly detailed forest backgrounds. All animals are depicted in a high relief gold inlay. With gold inlaid wire borders and the remainder of the action including the lever and tangs filled with a tight highly detailed vine scroll with sunburst engraved screws. Mounted on a full length Mannlicher style stock with a pewter forend cap, fine multi-point checkering at the forearm and pistol grip, sling swivel studs, "JSA" inscription panel on forearm, engraved skeleton grip cap and a fully engraved skeleton buttplate on a checkered naked butt. The article notes that the rifle was on display at the St. Louis Shot Show and that Peter Bang of Heym noted that he could have sold the rifle for twice what he quoted Amber multiple times to various interested attendees.

Very fine as built, master engraved and gold inlaid by Heym, with 99% of the blue finish on the barrel and some scattered light handling marks. The action is beautifully engraved and painstakingly gold inlaid with high detail. Showing light handling marks on the lever and sides. The wood is excellent with sharp checkering, scattered light indentations and some nice figuring near the butt. Mechanically excellent. This is a wonderful example of Old World craftsmanship for the American hunting market.
