Copy of U.S. Springfield Model 1869 Trapdoor Cavalry Pistol

An experimental weapon that has become shrouded in myth and legend, the Model 1869 Pistol was reportedly an early attempt to put a regulation-issue cartridge handgun in the holsters of America's cavalrymen. A small group, from as few as 2 to as many as 8, were produced, but never accepted. Blade front and notch rear sights with an "1864" dated Springfield lock, "DEC/1869" receiver, "1869/eagle/arrows/US" high-arch breechblock and a spurious "ESA" (Erskine Allin) stamped stock with brass buttplate.

ConditionVery good as modified/assembled. The frame and breechblock show dark casehardened color overall, with mild pitting on the breechblock and some light wear on the chamber areas. The rest of the steel components are bright with mild pitting on the lock and trigger. The modified stock is very good with a professional splice between the main body and the grip, as well as some light handling marks. Mechanically very good.
