Description:

This revolver was manufactured in 1851 and features the distinctive early "square back" trigger guard. The top of the barrel has the one line "NEW-YORK CITY" address. The underside has been marked "J.D.L." by a prior owner. The left side of the frame has the early style small "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The cylinder has the naval battle scene. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard, wedge, cylinder pin, and back strap. The replacement cylinder is marked "COLTS PATENT No. 21830". It is fitted with a one-piece walnut grip. The revolver comes in a fitted, relined hardwood case with red fabric lined interior and a reproduction "DIRECTIONS FOR LOADING COLT'S PISTOLS" lid label. The case contains a reproduction powder flask, empty cap tin, combination tool, key, conical bullet, and bullet mold.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled (cylinder mismatched, see above). The revolver retains strong traces of the original blue finish and case colors and otherwise has a mix of gray and brown patina on the barrel, cylinder, and frame which also have some light spotting and minor scratches. The grip frame retains 20% of the original silver plating and has an overall aged patina. The revarnished grip has a chunk absent on the left at the toe and is otherwise very good. The relined case is good with minor storage wear including dark stains on the interior. The bullet mold is poor with numerous dings on both sides of body. The modern flask is very good.
