This is an exceptionally fine example of a Colt Model 1862 Police revolver that was manufactured in 1866. The revolver has the distinctive fluted five-shot cylinder, round barrel, and creeping loading lever combined with Model 1849 size frame and grip. The barrel has a brass cone front sight. The recoil shield lacks the capping channel found on many Model 1862 Police revolvers. The barrel and cylinder have the Colt high polish commercial blue finish. The loading lever, frame and hammer are color casehardened and the brass trigger guard and back strap are silver-plated. The one-piece walnut grip has a high gloss varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "ADDRESS COLT SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" in one line. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines and "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The full serial number, "33942", is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "3942" is stamped on the wedge, cylinder arbor pin, and rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Very fine. The revolver is all original and retains 80% plus of the original high polished blue and 85% color casehardened finish. The barrel has finish flaking on the left side of the lug and several shallow scratches on the right side. The cylinder retains most of the high polish blue finish with light-moderate high point wear. The percussion nipples show only light flash pitting but the cylinder safety pins are battered. The loading lever, frame, and hammer have more than 90% of the fiery casehardened finish. Traces of the delicate silver-plated finish are present on the trigger guard and back strap and the brass surfaces have a good looking aged patina. The grip is in very fine condition and retains 90% or more of the high gloss, piano finish. Wear is limited to a few minor handling and storage marks with a semi-circular indentation present on the upper left side of grip. The action is tight and functions well. This is a very good looking example of a Colt Model 1862 Police revolver in very good overall condition.
