Description:

Measuring 36 inches in length, with an iron tip, a one inch thick hardwood shaft and a gold head (14k-18k?) with octagonal side flats and a flat top stamped with the markings of Braverman & Levy, San Francisco jewelers. The sides are decorated with scroll engraving, with alternating panels of a miner out in the fields and the inscription "F. Bonacina/To T.M. Janes/San Francisco/June 19th 1856". On top of the head is an inset with a faceted high concentration polished gold quartz ore. Historical records show a T.M. Janes as a trustee of the Sacramento Gas Company and a Treasurer and California Agent with Wells Fargo in 1856. F. Bonacina shows up as a Secretary with the West Vancouver Commercial Company based in San Francisco during the relevant time period.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with some mild scuffs and varnish loss on the shaft and light handling marks overall. Markings are all sharp. Gold quartz is excellent.
