Exceptional Documented Pre-War Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Original Box and Factory Letter Pictured in "A Study of the Colt SAA Revolver" Book

Colt Single Action Army revolver that was manufactured in 1924. This revolver is pictured on page 171 of "A STUDY OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER" by Graham, Kopec and Moore and is accompanied by a Colt factory letter. The factory letter describes the revolver as: "Serial Number: 346211, Caliber: .38/40, Barrel Length: 7 1/2", Finish: Blue", and "Type of Stocks: Not Listed". The letter states this revolver was sold to "H.C. Gruber and Company" and shipped to the Albany Hardware & Iron Company in Albany, New York, on April 14, 1924. Also included is an original bill of sale dated May 21, 1973 when it was purchased by Lewis E. Yearout. The revolver is complete with the royal blue carton marked with the serial number "346211" in grease pencil on the bottom along with the price: $34.52. Marked on the opposite end of the carton bottom is: "Bought April-26-1924/H.C.G. Mo. N.Y.". The carton is complete with the original Colt "SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS" pamphlet. The revolver has the Colt commercial blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame and loading gate are color case-hardened. The hammer is color case-hardened with border-less knurling on the spur. The trigger is niter blue. The two-piece, black, hard rubber grips are checkered with the Rampant Colt trademark embossed in an oval at the top. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT'S PT. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The caliber designation: "38 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Two-Line/Three-Date" patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark with a short arc under the Rampant Colt. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with an "8" assembler's mark above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark. The full serial number "346211" is stamped on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the trigger guard and back strap underneath the right grip. "346211" is scratched on the inside of both grips. The partial serial number "11" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The assembly number "934" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate and on the right rear frame flat. The has a blue and white end label marked: "7 1/2/Colt's S.A. Revolver,/RUBBER BLUE/.38-40". Colt manufacturer's labels are glued to the inside of the carton lid and bottom. The revolver is accompanied by a John Kopec autographed copy of the Anniversary Edition of "A STUDY OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER". Provenance: Lewis E. Yearout collection.

ConditionNear new in the original box. The revolver is all original and remains in virtually new condition with only slight storage wear. The cylinder shows only traces of turn marks between the stops. The frame, loading gate and hammer have 99% plus original vivid case colors. All of the screw heads remain in perfect condition. The black, checkered, hard rubber grips are in new condition. The carton remains in fine condition with scattered flaking around the edges of the lid and bottom and one broken corner on the lid and a repaired corner on the bottom. The end label is in very good overall condition with some flex marks and torn edges on the end closest to the broken corner. The interior of the carton lid and bottom and the pamphlet remain in very fine condition. This example of undoubtedly the most documented 1924 production Colt Single Action Army revolver would compliment the most advanced Colt collection extraordinarily well!
