Manufactured from 1876 to the 1880s, with this revolver being an early model example with the open top frame, scoop type cylinder flutes, wedge in front of the cylinder pin housing below the barrel and square butt grips with lanyard ring on the butt. The front sight is a blade integral to the barrel and the rear sight is a "V" notch just ahead of the hammer on the frame. The top of the barrel is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & Co. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Jan. 24. Apr. 21. Dec. 15.74. Aug. 3.75 July 11.76. Apr. 17. 77. Pat's Mar.6. 77." and "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." is on the left side. The serial number (12537) is on the butt and the assembly number (2065) is on the rear cylinder face and frame under the left grip. The cylinder and barrel feature a factory floral engraving which features leaves and scrolls. Additional engravings are on the side of the frame: an eagle grasping a snake in his beak on the left side and a farm scene on the right side. The revolver is nickel with casehardened hammer and trigger guard and niter blue trigger. The right grip panel has a relief carved eagle.

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus original nickel finish with loss mostly contained to the breech of the barrel. The hammer and trigger guard retain 95% vivid original case colors. The grips are also excellent showing some minor handling marks with age cracking on the bottoms. Mechanically excellent.
