Civil War Era U.S. Rogers & Spencer Army Model Percussion Revolver

This is one of an estimated 5,000 Army Model percussion revolvers manufactured by the Rogers & Spencer Co. for a U.S. Ordnance contract issued in November 1864. They were delivered from April to September 1865, too late to see use during the war despite the war not officially ending until August 1866. Bannerman's in New York city purchased nearly all of them in 1901 and sold them on the commercial market. The revolver features German silver cone front and frame groove sights and has the top strap stamped "ROGERS & SPENCER/UTICA N-Y" on either side of the sighting groove. Matching serial numbers are present on the barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder, butt, and right grip. The left grip is numbered 3670 and has a script "RPB" cartouche. Small "B" inspection marks are stamped on most components.

ConditionFine. The barrel, loading lever, and cylinder display mostly a crisp gray patina and have some traces of original finish. The frame retains 50% of the original blue finish and has gray and brown patina on the balance. The hammer has some faint case colors. There are some spots of minor oxidation and pitting, various minor marks, and some light edge wear. The grips are very good and have chipping along the lower edge of the left panel and minor handling and storage marks. The action functions fine.
