The Mitrailleuse pistols (from "Grapeshot") were manufactured by Manufacture Française d’Armes de Saint-Étienne in the 1890s before being renamed Le Gaulois (native people of France as in the Gauls) in approximately 1897. The renamed model was manufactured until the second decade of the 20th century. The right side of the frame is marked "MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE/D'ARMES DE ST ETIENNE", and the left side has a three position selector switch with French markings. "MITRAILLEUSE" is marked on top of the barrel rib followed by a serrated dust cover. It has an etched pattern on the frame sides, serrations on the front, and a checkered panel of mottled red/black hard rubber numbered "6492" is on the casehardened operating bar. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, underside of the side plate, and on the inside of the action. It comes with an unmarked coin purse style holster.

Extremely fine. The pistol retains 90% plus of the original nickel finish with some spots of minor oxidation. The dust cover has a brown patina. The operating bar retains over half of the dark case colors. The grip panel has sharp checkering and only minor handling marks. The action is fine and the markings and designs are crisp. The holster is fair with some material torn and absent.
