This double action pinfire revolver, manufactured by Paulino Aretio of Bilbao Spain, features an exquisite silver and gold inlaid foliate motif. The inlaid foliate covers nearly all of the metal surfaces on a matte black background. The vine and leaf pattern cover the cylinder flats, frame, recoil shields, loading gate, hammer, folding trigger, and grip straps. The sides for the frame have "J.J.M.Z." inlaid in gold. The edge of the left recoil shield has "FaDE PAULINO DE ARETIO" inlaid on gold and the edge of the loading gate (right side) has "BILBAO" inlaid in gold. The screw heads and grip screw escutcheons also feature gold inlay. The case holds the revolver, a screwdriver and a cleaning rod. Cartridge blocks line the sides of the case which are able to hold a total of 104 pinfire cartridges, 80 cartridges are included. The top of the lid has a silver inlaid plaque which reads, "J.J.M.Z." (the same initials that appear on the sides of the frame).

Excellent. The cylinder flutes retain 80% original high polished blue finish showing brown speckling. The remaining surfaces retain 90% of the matte black finish. All of the gold and silver inlay remain. The slightly shrunken grips are fine with a minor chip missing near the top (left panel). The grip has an attractive grain pattern and color. Action needs work as trigger must be reset after the action is cycled. The case is fine with a minor crack on the lid, minor handling/storage marks, and high spot wear on the lining. Half of the pearl key hole escutcheon remains. A fine example of a silver and gold inlaid pinfire revolver that would enhance any European antique sidearm collection.
