Description:

This is an very fine example of a later post WWI standard commercial Model 1896 Mauser pistol. This example has the smaller bolo style frame with the small grips and small ring hammer. These were a continuation of the same pre-war style pistols, only made after WWI. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" with the serial number on the right side of the chamber area. The right side of the frame is stamped with the two line markings of: WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A. NECKAR" with the left rear frame panel marked with the small Mauser Banner logo. It is fitted with the short barrel with the banded front side that has the fixed front sight blade with the adjustable rear sights graduated from 50-1000 meters. The top rear flat of the bolt is stamped with the last four digits of the serial number and a single "Crown/U" commercial proof. The rear of the hammer has the correct "NS" markings. It is fitted with a set of serrated walnut grips with 22 grooves on each grip. It is complete with a lanyard loop and ring on the butt and a combination wooden shoulder stock/holster with an unmarked blued attaching iron.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% of the blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The grips are in excellent condition with only minor handling marks in a couple areas with some slightly heavier pressure dents on the front edge of the left grip. Mechanically excellent. The combination stock is in very fine condition with a hairline crack visible on left side of wrist at the attachment iron juncture. Minor handling marks on balance.
