Rare Mauser Experimental/Prototype Nickel Patent Semi-Automatic Pistol in 9 mm Luger

This is an excellent example of an extremely rare, Mauser/Nickl experimental/prototype semi-automatic pistol in the 9 mm Luger cartridge. This design was actually developed by Josef Nickl at the Czech Bruno factory that was produced by the Mauser factory on a prototype basis only. It is almost identical to the Czech model 1922/24 semi-automatic pistol only considerably larger overall and was chambered in the "9 mm Luger" (not Kurz) cartridge. These were produced on a very limited basis with not more than 50 ever produced in all configurations. The serial number of this unique pistol is "26" and it is correctly numbered on the rear of the frame, the top of the slide, the front barrel bushing, the underside of the side plate, and take down lever, the lower rear area of the magazine body and the left side of the slide is marked "Cal. 9 mm." near the muzzle. The left side of the frame(side plate)is marked with a large "N" which stood for the Nickl Patent followed by the "Mauser Banner" logo/ "Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf A.N." There are no other visible proof marks on the outside of the pistol. It is fitted with a one-piece set of wrap-around style walnut grips with fine cut checkering on each side. The rear of the grip has the initials "SA" marked on them in a very light type pencil marking. The pistol has a rust blue finish with a straw colored hammer.

ConditionExcellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with only very minor edge/high spot wear. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition with most of the original varnish overall with nice distinct checkering, showing the very light initials noted above. Mechanically excellent. This is an extremely rare early Mauser experimental/prototype pistol using the Nickl design.
