OE - GOOD - some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal legible; lightly scratched, bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.
This Third Model Winchester 1872 rifle with the distinctive integral dust cover rail was manufactured in 1888. Blade front sight and buckhorn rear sight (elevator missing) with a Lyman tang peep sight. The top barrel flat has the two line address/patent marking ahead of the rear sight with "22 SHORT" at the breech. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "22 CAL / SHORT". Smooth straight grip stock and smooth replacement forearm, with iron forend cap and crescent buttplate.
Very good as having once been cleaned with 40% original blue remaining overall with the majority being on the receiver. There are numerous nicks and dings over most of the receiver with the barrel exhibiting light pitting. The buttstock is fine, forearm revarnished. Mechanically fine.
