Description:

This Colt Model 1851 percussion revolver features an exquisite, near full coverage of a 24K gold inlaid masterpiece crafted by world renowned Master Engraver Paul Lantuch. It is the type of craftsmanship one has come to expect from the prestigious FEGA member engraver. The barrel, frame and hammer feature near full coverage of a fine foliate design which incorporates large mythical creatures (griffins, phoenixes and felines) and dragon heads. The most impressive dragon heads are featured on the recoil shields. These dragon heads are the largest on the revolver and showcase fine detail work. The left side of the frame has "COLTS/PATENT" inlaid in gold and a raised relief gold inlaid Phoenix. The bottom barrel flat is marked "PAUL LANTUCH ENGR AD 1992" followed by "24K" in gold. Also "Paul Lantuch" is stamped in gold in a small rectangular cartouche below the serial number on the frame and on the loading lever. The left side of the barrel lug has a raised relief gold inlaid goddess holding an anchor. The right side of the barrel lug has a raised relief gold inlaid general riding a rearing horse. The right side of the frame has a unique raised relief gold inlaid mythical big cat. The top barrel flat has "Saml. Colt" inlaid in gold inside gold banners. The cylinder has a double gold inlaid band at the front and a band of gold inlaid scrollwork around the cylinder stops. Between the percussion nipples are alternating gold inlaid designs which are anchors and various geometric patterns. The cylinder has the engraved naval battle scene typically found on Colt Model 1851s. The cylinder marking "COLT'S PATENT No. 23498" is inlaid in gold. The serial number is also inlaid in gold on the barrel and frame. The foliate pattern extends to the flats of the casehardened loading lever. The screw heads and barrel wedge feature inlaid gold work. Gold hallmarks are on the hammer, front face of the cylinder and underside of the frame. The gold plated grip straps exhibit deep relief engraved floral patterns. The revolver is fitted with a nicely figured, piano finished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Near mint as professionally embellished, showing the slightest handling marks overall. The cylinder purposefully does not turn in order to maintain the integrity of the gold inlay and blue finish. Truly a master work of firearm art that would enhance any percussion or engraved Colt collection!
