Description:

This Colt was manufactured in 1867 and was subsequently custom embellished in the 20th century. The engraving patterns, including the dog head on the hammer, are inspired by the work of Gustave Young. It has matching serial numbers (wedge not marked), standard markings and sights, and is fitted with a one-piece grip carved with the Mexican eagle emblem on the left. The barrel, frame and back strap are silver plated while the remaining components are finished in gold, aside from the brass trigger guard. It comes in a hardwood case with a tin of Eley Bros. caps "Made expressly for/COLT'S PT./Belt and Pocket/PISTOLS.", package of six combustible envelope cartridges, silver finished powder flask, and a Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold.

Rating Definition:

Very good as custom embellished. The revolver retains 50% plus of the gold plating and 25% of the silver plating. There is areas of golden, brown, and gray patina along with some light pitting and minor marks. The period grip is fine and has some cracks and crisp designs. The markings and patterns are mostly clear throughout and the action is fine. The relined case is fine with stains, fading and minor tears on the lining, cracks and an absent shield on the lid, and overall minor storage marks. The accessories are fine.
