Description:

This rifle has no visible markings but is similar in style to target rifles manufactured in the north east in the mid to late 19th century used for target shooting and by sharpshooters in the Civil War. This example has an medium weight barrel turned down and drilled at the muzzle for the included false muzzle and starter, a folding combination front sight, taps around the front sight for mounting, a fancy peep sight on the action, double set triggers, no forearm, a smooth buttstock with German silver patch box and fittings and a long cheekpiece, and unusual mother of pearl inlays on the left side of the action. A spare nipple (possibly the original) is in the patch box with some patch material.

Rating Definition:

Fine with replaced nipple and bolster screw. The front sight has the globe absent. The barrel has faded original finish blended with dark patina. The lock has a mottled gray patina on the exterior and strong blue finish and bright surfaces on the interior. The stock is fine with scattered light dings and scratches. The remaining components have mild aged patina. The false muzzle and starter both display mixed brown and gray patina.
