Attractive Japanese Tanto Length Knife with Fine Wildlife Scene Carved Bone Fittings

Measuring 12 3/4 inches overall, the knife features a 7 1/4 inch blade with a wavy hamon and a brass habaki. The saya and hilt are both made from carved bone with a lightly flared aikuchi style joint, floral pattern end plugs and a finely detailed scene of a tree near a waterfall occupied by a troop of twelve macaques. The troop has recently stolen a basket of food and related items from an unidentified human group, and with the exception of a macaque on the right side of the grip deeply occupied with a hand mirror and one on the left that appears to be in the midst of an existential crisis after finding a carving of a macaque head, they are engaged in general primate behavior.

ConditionFine exterior appearance. The blade has turned a mixed gray, with mild spotting and a faded but visible temper line. The fittings are fine, with some mild age cracks, light handling marks and fine detail.
