Signed Shin-Gunto Pattern Japanese Sword

Measuring 37 3/4 inches overall with a 26 3/4 inch original length blade, showing a strong wavy hamon, two-piece gilt copper habaki, traditional hilt fittings with the addition of a silver mitsudomoe mon on the rear and a brown enamel finished saya with metal fittings, one suspension band and a cloth tag on the suspension ring with untranslated markings. (usually a soldier's plea to return to family which wasn't very successful!). Tang is very fine, one hole, angle cut proper end signed and dated on both sides of tang.

ConditionFine. The otherwise fine blade shows mild spotting and handling marks, with a strong hamon. Some staining is present on the grip wrap, with tears in the rayskin opposite the mekugi. A few scuffs are present on the saya.
