Description:

These later DWM Model 1913 Lugers are really an enigma within the Luger community and fall within a very narrow serial number range, generally accepted as being in the 71,000-72,000 range. However, with so few examples even seen, it is very difficult to quantify the exact range. It has also been generally accepted that the 1914 Commercial Lugers started at approximately serial number 71,500-73500. Those two points clearly support that this is a very late, 1913 Commercial Luger. The key aspect in determining this as a true Model 1913 commercial is that it is manufactured with the five digit commercial serial number and no stock lug which indicates it's a pre-1914 model. It also has the easily identifiable, old style 1906 pattern frame that utilized a grip safety with the new style recoil spring. These 1913 models were produced specifically to use up all the old style frames before DWM transitioned to the new style 1914 frame. It has a blank chamber area with the front toggle having the DWM monogram. The left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel, and both the breechblock and the front toggle have a single "Crown/N" proofmark. It is correctly numbered as a commercial Luger with the full five digit serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel, the front of the frame with the last four digits of the serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel extension, and in front of and on top of the frame lug. The last two digits of the serial number are stamped on the various parts in the correct commercial fashion including both grips. This example is correctly chambered in 9 mm Luger and it has the standard extractor and safety markings and was produced with a hold-open device, which would have been consistent with what you would find on a late transitional 1913 commercial. This Luger is complete with the correct commercial magazine with the nickel plated magazine body and a wooden base stamped "GERMANY". This example has the high polish blued finish with straw colors on the small parts and a set of checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear and some general light thinning overall. The smaller parts retain 99% of their restrawed colors. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering overall, a couple of minor pressure dents on the middle left side, and a small nick in the diamonds on the right side. Mechanically excellent.
