This is a unique example of a late WWII VG2 bolt action rifle. This series of rifle, was one of the very last ditch manufacturing concepts used by the Germans in late WWII. Although crude in appearance, they were very functional and usable by the average German solder or civilians in late 1945. It uses a traditional bolt action type mechanism which feeds from the standard G43 sheet metal box magazine. The complete rifle however is very different in that it was manufactured using four separate sections; the barrel, the bolt body, a cast or machined front and rear receiver rings a stamped and pinned trigger group and then the hardwood/beech stock and forend. The receiver was produced as a flat, sheet metal stamping which was then formed over a round mandrel to give it the appearance of a round receiver. The front and rear receiver rings were inserted inside and spot welded in place. The traditionally lathe turned, round barrel (with internal rifling) was inserted into the front receiver ring, noted above. The rear receiver ring/bolt body guide, was inserted into the rear of the sheet metal receiver and also spot welded in place. The complete trigger group with internal components ( all of which appear to be sheet metal stampings) was then inserted into the rear underside of the sheet metal receiver and also spot welded in place. The bolt body itself was lather turned and bored out for the firing pin assembly and had the traditional front locking lugs. The firing pin and main spring assembly are all inserted from the rear of the bolt and it appears that those parts are all held in place by a simple lather turned handle that is inserted through the bolt body. The forend and buttstock were both then just inserted into the front and rear ends of the stamped receiver and held in place by two lateral cross pins. The rear sight is nothing more than a single sheet metal tube welded to the top of the receiver in which a simple round machined rear sight was insert that functioned as a rear sight notch. The front sight is nothing more than a piece of sheet metal steel that was formed over a fixture and then pinned in place on the front end of the barrel. The barrel is marked with two Luftwaffe type Eagle proofs with a number "15" inside, followed by the manufacturer's code of "bky", identified as the barrel maker of the Bohmische Waffenfabrik, factory in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The left side of the receiver is marked with: "VG2/ cyq" followed by serial number "10856". " The "cyq" code was the wartime code for the Metallwarenfabrik Spreewerke, Berlin-Spandau. It is complete with one K43 magazine.

Fair with 80% of a refurbished black painted enamel type finish on all the metal parts, with some minor scratches, dings and scuffs in the paint overall from handling and use. The stock and forend are both in good condition having been sanded down to the bare wood showing minor handling marks on the sides. It is also missing the cupped buttplate on the end of the stock. Mechanically does not function as the bolt is missing some components. A very scarce and interesting example of a late, last ditch VG2 bolt action rifle.
