Description:

This is a very desirable late production, Mauser Model 1896, six shot, small ring hammer, bolo frame pistol that has the late production Gutta-Percha style floral grip. This pistol is somewhat unique based on the noted features above and it has the rare back strap that is NOT cut for the combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. Clearly this desirable pistol was intended to be carried in a leather holster as a conventional pistol. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N" and the right rear side of the frame is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.Neckar". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a double crown/U proof mark along with the serial number. It has the short Bolo style barrel with a banded front sight, while the rear of the upper receiver is milled flat and it is fitted with a fixed rear sight. It is fitted with bolo style gutta percha, (hard rubber) style grips with the floral pattern on the grips. Each grip is matching serial numbered (scratched) on the back of each grip. These were used by the Mauser factory for a short time before switching back to the standard walnut grips. It has the standard lanyard ring stud and ring on the underside of the grip of the pistol. These six-shot Broomhandle pistols have the best feel and balance of all the 1896 pistols.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall with some fading/thinning of the blue on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 80% of their heat blued finish and the trigger retains 50% of its straw color overall. The grips are also in excellent condition showing only minor, light wear across the face of each grips with a coupe of very minor handing marks.
