Description:

Only the first 650 revolvers produced under William S. Smoot's 1873 patent were manufactured with the rotating recoil shield designed to prevent faulty cartridges from being fired. The later examples have a fixed stop that was less expensive to manufacture. This early revolver has the one line address and Smoot patent marking on the top of the rib along with a round blade front sight. The matching serial number is marked on the upper and lower sections under the left grip. It comes in a hardwood case with red baize lined interior, a key, and a cartridge block containing thirty-six rounds of ammunition. The cartridge has a mix of "U," "US," and "H" headstamps.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% of the original frosted nickel plating remains. There is some flaking, primarily on the cylinder, and light scratches. The hammer retains faded case colors. The grips are very good and have mild handling wear including a few dings. The action functions fine, and the markings are crisp. The relined case is good with some separation at the right front corner, a minor crack in the lid, and minor stains and tears in the lining.
