Description:

Manufactured in Mexico in the early 1930's. Designed for the Mexican Army, between 600 and 1000 were made. When the military decided to remain with the Colt pistol, production of the Obregon stopped and the back stock was put on the commercial market. Around 50 are currently known to collectors at this time. While the Obregon looks much like the Colt Model 1911A1, it is mechanically different. The barrel rotates to lock instead of moving vertically, and the internal parts are fewer in number but more difficult to fabricate. The left side of the slide is marked "Sistema OBREGON/Calibre 11.43". The right side of the frame is marked "FABRICA DE ARMAS MEXICO", "No A 131" and "PAT.No. 35053". It features low profile fixed combat sights, grip safety, serrated grip straps and a lanyard ring on the butt. The grips are cast silver with textured borders, a bust of an Aztec warrior, central gear marked "INDUSTRIA/MILITAR" with a flaming bombshell, and a portrait of a man. There is lettering cast below the portrait, but it is illegible.

Rating Definition:

Very good as refinished with 90% plus blue finish. Displaying some areas of light edge and high point wear, markings buffed light and finished over, some scattered light pitting that has been cleaned and finished over. The grips are very good custom replacements with a few light handling marks and dings. Mechanically fine.
