This is a fine representative example of a Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle complete with the 2.5X sniper scope. This rifle was produced at the Chigusa factory under Nagoya Arsenal. The top of the receiver (number 3871) has the Royal Chrysanthemum and is marked with the Kana markings for "Type 97". The correct style replacement mismatched number (965) bolt is present in the rifle. The rear folding sight is the ladder style, and the rear barrel band is equipped with the monopod block with the monopod attached. It has the earlier style front barrel band. The buttstock is the two-piece type without drain holes, short hand guard and cupped sheet metal buttplate. The scope base is marked "2011".
