This is an example of a seldom encountered long variant of a Japanese Type 99 rifle. This rifle features a inverted "V" front and a rear leaf peep sight with flip-out anti-aircraft wings. The top of the receiver is marked with a crisp chrysanthemum and the Type 99 Japanese characters. The left side of the receiver has no series markings in front of the serial number and has the Nagoya Arsenal mark and the Department of Control (chief inspector) marking. Matching numbers are present on the bayonet lug, bolt handle and magazine extractor. Mounted on a smooth hardwood stock, fitted with a monopod, cleaning rod, sling swivels and a cupped-edge sheet metal buttplate.

Very good as partially refinished (wood). The rifle retains 40% of the blue finish with minor brown speckling and light pitting. The markings are clear. The refinished stock is good with scattered scratches and dings. The stock also has two areas of repair on the left side at the finger grooves and below the serial number. Mechanically fine.

This is an example of the very scarce early production Series 35 Japanese Type 99 service rifle with the scarce 31 inch long barrel. These rifle were produced on a very limited basis, and eventually they changed to the standard 25 1/2 inch length. This specific rifle was manufactured at the Toyo Kogyo factory in Hiroshima. The top of the receiver were the Royal Chrysanthemum is marked has been grounded off and Type 99 Kanji markings remain. The left side of the receiver has the serial number and proofs. Fixed inverted "V" front sight, folding rear with mounts for A-A wings, and early style barrel band with monopod mount. Fine. The rifle retains 70% of the blue finish with minor scratches and light pitting around the ground mum. The rest of the markings are clear. The stock is also fine with scattered scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
